A Smooth Transition From Military to College Student

We honor, welcome, and support you — our military service members, veterans, and families transitioning from military to college life. More than 200 military-connected students attend Hawkeye each semester. Several veterans serve as administration, faculty, and staff.

Getting Started: Your Welcome Checklist

Whether you’re new or coming back to school, there are a few things you need to do before you begin.

First off, it’s a good idea to chat with your Education Service Officer or counselor from your military service about your options before you enroll.

When you're ready, complete the items below to begin your journey at Hawkeye!

If you need help, reach out to our in-house Veterans Services Coordinator. They can assist you with VA Benefit applications, federal and state tuition assistance, My CAA programs, scholarships, and financial aid.

What to Expect with Billing and Payments

At the start of the semester, you’ll get a billing statement.

If you’re using Post 9/11 benefits or VA Vocational Rehabilitation, your tuition will be sent directly to the school. But if you’re not using those benefits, you’ll be responsible for paying your bill at Hawkeye.

With Post 9/11 or VA Vocational Rehabilitation, the school will receive your tuition and fees, but your housing allowance and book stipend will come to you directly. The housing allowance is paid monthly, and you’ll get the book stipend at the beginning of the semester.

If you have any questions, just ask! We’re here to help you.
